DENVER - The FIU women's soccer team on Friday afternoon dropped a 2-1 decision to host Denver to snap a two-game winning streak for the Golden Panthers.

The loss drops the Golden Panthers to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the Sun Belt Conference; meanwhile, the host Pioneers raise their record to 8-9-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

The Golden Panthers outshot the Pioneers in the opening half, 6-5, against Denver goalkeeper Cassandra Kaeding. Plus, in the 37th minute of contest junior forward Elizabeth Durozel broke open the scoreless contest with her first goal of the season. She scored the unassisted goal from nearly five-yards out past Kaeding to give FIU a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers had chances courtesy of five corner kicks but the Golden Panther defense rose to the occasion for the halftime lead.

The Pioneers came back in the early stages of the second half to knot the score at 1-1. A blast from 10-yards out by Denver's Taryn Hemmings got past FIU goalkeeper Madeline Gannon for the equalizer. FIU looked to regain the lead on a pair of Janessa Taddei shots; however, the Pioneers new goalkeeper Danielle Wiley made some clutch saves. The score remained tied until Jenna Billingsley scored on a header in the 82nd minute when she capitalized on a Pioneers' corner kick for the gamewinner.

Despite the loss, Gannon made six saves for the Golden Panthers while facing 13 shots including eight on goal. FIU will wrap up its regular season play on Sunday with a 1 p.m. tilt at North Texas.
