MIAMI – Following a nearly-even opening
45 minutes, the host South Alabama Jaguars
scored four second-half goals en route to
a 5-0 victory over the FIU women's soccer
team on Friday night.
The Jaguars' took a 1-0 lead when USA's
Rebecca Kahn scored in the 15th minute on
a shot to the right post past FIU goalkeeper
Madeline Gannon. USA held a 5-3 lead in
shots, following the first half. The Golden
Panthers' Yaneash Donaldson had a shot in
the 45th minute; however reigning All-Sun
Belt Conference goalkeeper Amber Angermeier
came up with the save. Angermeier recorded
four saves and the shutout for the Jaguars.
Despite both teams, recording eight shots
in the second half, USA extended its lead
with three goals in a 15-minute span. The
Jaguars added their final goal in the 75th
minute as Kahn added her second goal of
the evening to close out the scoring.
In the loss for FIU, redshirt junior Janessa
Taddei paced a Golden Panther attack with
four shots and Gannon made four saves. With
the win, for South Alabama, both Kahn and
Heather Adams recorded three shots.
The loss drops the Golden Panthers to 4-7
overall and 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference play;
meanwhile, South Alabama raises its record
to 8-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
