Women's Soccer Secures Second CUSA Victory in a Row

Montelene Dymond scores seventh of the season while Jayden Boelter scores for the third game in a row

KENNESAW, Ga. – Women's Soccer (5-2-3, 2-0 CUSA) triumphs over CUSA-foe Kennesaw State (1-7-3, 0-2 CUSA) in a 2-0 result on Thursday night, the Panthers second win in a row.

The Panthers found the most chances throughout the contest, leading the Owls 8-4 in shots in the first half, with one shot on goal. Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, going into the break, 0-0.

The Panthers found their first goal of the contest early out of the half in the 57th minute, when junior Montelene Dymond crossed up a Kennesaw State defender at the top of the box and hit her seventh goal of the season. It is Dymond's second match in a row with a goal, and her CUSA-leading fourth game-winner of the season.

Graduate student Jayden Boelter put FIU ahead by two with a goal in the 66th minute. Junior Mona Gellert delivered her first assist of the season, a cross into the box, which Boelter confidently headed into the net. The Kentucky native has now scored three goals on the year, finding the back of the net in three straight matches.

The Panthers defense was strong the whole match, allowing just nine shots on the evening and two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo recorded two saves in the match en route to her third clean sheet of the season.

FIU had 14 shots and 5 shots on goal in the contest, with five Panthers getting off two shots in the match.

The victory marks the third year in a row the Panthers have started 2-0 in conference-play.
