Kochen Scores Twice to Clinch SBC Tournament Bid for FIU

MIAMI ? Senior Tamara Kochen scored twice en route to a 2-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in Mobile, Ala. to clinch a berth in the 2005 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

The matchup between the two teams was moved from FIU and Miami on Thursday to Mobile, Alabama and the University of South Alabama.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Golden Panthers, who raise their record to 4-7-4 and 2-4-1 in conference play. For the Ragin' Cajuns, they fall to 4-9-3 overall and 2-6-1 in conference action.

In her first goal, in the 37th minute, Kochen capitalized on a 3-vs-2 opportunity for her second goal of the season. Holding a 1-0 advantage, Kochen took a rebound of her own shot in the 62nd minute to extend the FIU lead to 2-0. She finished the contest with a match-high four shots, including three on goal.

Hopes for a shutout ended when Louisiana-Lafayette's Lindsay Webb capitalized on a penalty kick in the 70th minute for the final margin.

FIU junior goalkeeper Laura Snell had a strong game in goal for the Golden Panthers, making four saves on 12 Louisiana-Lafayette shots.

The Golden Panthers will remain in Mobile for its next contest as the University of South Alabama will host the 2005 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 2. FIU's first-round opponent and time have yet to be announced by the conference.
