Late Goal Gives No. 9 South Carolina 1-0 Victory Over Men's Soccer

Columbia, S.C. - A 79th-minute strike from Jeff Scannella gave No. 9 South Carolina a 1-0 win over Florida International in Conference USA men's soccer action Saturday evening at Stone Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

Scannella scored his goal from 12 yards out after receiving a cross from David Smith as the Gamecocks improved to 10-2-0 on the year and 3-1 in C-USA play.  The Golden Panthers fell to 4-6-2 and 0-3 in conference.

The match was evenly-contested throughout as South Carolina held a slim 12-11 edge in shots, although FIU had more shots on goal and more corner kicks, both 6-4 margins.

Sophomore Levi Coleman (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had the most chances on the night for the Golden Panthers with four shots, three of which forced a save out of Gamecock goalkeeper Mike Gustavson.  Senior Shawn Crowe (Aurora, Colo.) made three saves for FIU.

The Golden Panthers return to action on Wednesday for another Conference USA road match at Marshall starting at 7 p.m.
