TAMPA ? Freshman Michelle Casadevall (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) notched her first career goal and assist to lead Florida International to its first win of the season, a 3-0 upset over previously-unbeaten South Florida Sunday afternoon at the USF Soccer Stadium in Tampa.
Â
The Golden Panthers (1-4-0) got on the board quickly with an unassisted goal from freshman Lonne Godskessen (Odense, Denmark) in the fifth minute, FIU's only shot of the first half while USF (4-1-1) had just two.
Â
The second half opened up with the Bulls owning a 10-8 advantage in shots, and yet it was the Golden Panthers who would do the only scoring. Casadevall put FIU up by two with an unassisted tally in the 70th minute. Eight minutes later, she would assist on a goal from freshman Nanna Rasmussen (Odense, Denmark).
Â
All three FIU goals came from freshmen and were the first of their respective careers.
Â
Junior goalkeeper Madeline Gannon (Ft. Myers, Fla.) made four saves for her third career shutout, and first of the season. Mallori Lofton-Malachi made four saves in a losing effort for USF after coming into the game at halftime.
Â
The Golden Panthers return home next Sunday to take on Mt. Saint Mary's at Noon.
