Men's Soccer Shutout By No. 6 SMU

The FIU men's soccer team was out-shot 17-8 as they lost a 2-0 decision to the No. 6 ranked Mustangs of SMU, Sunday afternoon in Dallas.

Coming off back-to-back Conference USA victories, the Golden Panthers (2-9-2; 2-3-0) fell behind in the 20th minute when junior keeper Kyle Thomas (Jensen Beach, Fla.) attempted to clear the ball but instead hit SMU's Bruno Guarda in the chest. Guarda then flicked the ball in for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.

SMU (9-2-2; 3-0-1) would control the rest of the match limiting FIU to just two shots on goal en route to remaining undefeated in Conferense USA action.

Junior keeper Matias Wilson (Weston, Fla.) saw his first action of the season as he replaced Thomas in net during the 59th minute.

Wilson allowed a goal in the 90th minute when Dan Saintus beat a couple of FIU defenders and dished off to Scott Geppert who scored on a floater over Wilson's head.

For FIU, Juan Guerra (Caracas, Venezuela) finished with three shots, while senior Richard Martinez (Hialeah, Fla.) added two.

The Golden Panthers return to University Park on Saturday, Oct. 27 as they host the Kentucky Wildcats at 7 p.m.
