Women's Soccer Falls To Murray State 2-1

FIU's women's soccer team dropped to 1-2-1 on the season after ending up on the wrong side of a 2-1 score against Murray State Friday night at University Park.

FIU fell behind early when a defensive lapse allowed Jen Nowak to breakaway and get a one on one chance with FIU keeper Jessica Vaccaro (Miami, Fla.) Nowak made the most of the opportunity as she fired from the top of the penalty area and found the back of the net to put Murray State ahead 1-0.

The Racers almost doubled their lead when a hard foul by Kia Rigsby (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) gave Murray State a free kick just outside the penalty area. Renata Figara took the shot for the Racers only to find the crossbar, keeping the score 1-0.

Claudia Cardenas (Visalia, Cali.) had a chance to equalize for FIU when she got behind the Racer defense. However, indecision on Cardenas' part would lead to Murray state dispossessing her, thus ending the threat.

Murray State would strike again when Katie Wilson got behind the FIU defense and beat goalkeeper Madeline Gannon (Ft. Myers, Fla.), who replaced Vaccaro to begin the second half.

Cardenas would have another opportunity, this time in the 60th minute. The freshman forward found herself inside the penalty area and let off a low shot that would be stopped by Racer keeper Tara Isbell.

Kassandra Sorzano (Miami, Fla.) would get FIU on the board when she sent a chip shot over Murray State's keeper for her first goal of the year. However it would be too little too late as Murray State went on to win 2-1, improving their record to 4-4-0.
