FIU 2, Arkansas State 1
FIU's women's soccer team picked up their fourth win in the last five games, a 2-1 win at Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon.
Â
"Arkansas State played very well but luckily we were able to get the result today," said Head Coach Thomas Chestnutt. "The girls played hard and we just have to come out strong on Friday against FAU."
Â
The Red Wolves got on the board first in the 29th minute but FIU would answer back less than four minutes later on a beautiful goal by Amy Jackson (Melbourne, Australia), who received a pass in the box from Katrina Rose (Weston, Fla.Â
Â
The game would remain tied until the 58th minute when Linn Thune (Norway) found Rose who buried it in the back of the net off of another corner from April Perry (Hollywood, Fla.) for the game-winner.
Â
"It was really good to score off of the two corners," said Kassandra Sorzano (Miami, Fla.). "We went up 2-1 and we were able to stay on top and not let up. It was definitely a good win for us."
Â
The Golden Panthers had multiple other good scoring chances. Late in the first half, FIU had a shot sail just wide the combination of Deana Rossi (New Port Richey, Fla.) and Marina Pappas (Lancaster, Pa.) would provide a spark. Pappas played a beautiful ball to Rossi on the other side of the box the Arkansas State goalkeeper made an excellent diving save on the shot.Â
Despite being outshot 16-11, the two goals off of corner kicks proved to be the difference for FIU.

The Golden Panthers will be back in action for their final regular season game, a 7 p.m. match at FAU.
