NT 1, FIU 0
Despite outshooting North Texas 12-4, FIU's women's soccer team fell to the Mean Green, 1-0, Sunday in Denton, Texas.
Â
"I feel bad for the team in a sense that we did almost everything right today and we just came up short," said Head Coach Thomas Chestnutt. "North Texas is a very good team but playing as well as we did today without a result definitely hurts."
Â
Julie Lackey put the Mean Green on the board early with a goal in the 25th minute.
Â
The Golden Panthers not only outshot North Texas, including a 9-1 advantage in the second half, but also had eight corner kicks compared to three for North Texas.
Â
"We played well but hanging in there shows what this team can do," said defender Kia Rigsby. " Hopefully we can use this as a learning experience for the rest of the season."
Â
FIU freshman goalkeeper Melanie Raimo (Tampa, Fla.) was able to keep the Mean Green off the board over the final 65 minutes but the Golden Panthers were just unable to put the ball in the back of the net.
Â
FIU will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday for an 8 p.m. matchup before taking on Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday at 2 p.m.
