MTSU 2, FIU 1
FIU dropped a hard-fought match to Middle Tennessee, 2-1, Friday night at University Park.
Â
The Golden Panthers were able to outshoot the Blue Raiders, 17-8, and had multiple second half chances but were unable to even the game at two as Middle Tennessee came away with the win.
Â
"Unfortunately, we didn't get a result tonight," said Head Coach Thomas Chestnutt. "We did a lot of good things but our opponents were also good and too the initiative early. We are starting to show what type of team we are capable of becoming."
Â
The Blue Raiders jumped out to the early 1-0 lead on a goal in the 23rd minute by Heather McDonnell (Bedfordshire, England) off of a cross from Shan Jones (Y Felinheli, Wales). Jones then scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 44th minute when she knocked in a rebound from just outside the six yard box.
Â
FIU would cut the lead in half in the 50th minute when freshman Katrina Rose (Weston, Fla.) curled in a free kick from 40 yards out.
Â
The Golden Panthers will be back in action when they take on WKU, Sunday at 1 p.m. at University Park.
