The FIU men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Memphis on Saturday night in Memphis, Tenn. The Golden Panthers (4-8-0; 0-4 C-USA) allowed a goal in the 34th minute, and could never break the Tigers' (5-4-2; 2-3 C-USA) defense.
FIU keeper Phillip Lamarre, who was coming off a shutout of Jacksonville last Monday night, made three saves, but allowed the game-winner in the first half. At the 33.09 mark in the opening stanza, Memphis's Justin Watson found Andreas Guenter who made a run from 40 yards out and fired from 20 to find the back of the net and notch the only score of the match.
Freshman Sebastian Frings came off the bench for the Golden Panthers and took three shots, including a team-best two on goal, but was turned away by Memphis' keeper Michael Goodlett, who recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
The Golden Panthers will take another break from Conference USA play this Monday as they host Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m.
