MIAMI - The FIU women's soccer team dropped its first conference game of the season to Middle Tennessee on Friday, 2-0.
Kaley Durrance and Marina Pappas both took a team-high two shots on goal but couldn't connect.
Vanessa Mueggler assisted Jaimee Cooper on Middle Tennessee's first goal with more than 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
Shan Jones scored her eighth goal of the season off a penalty kick with roughly 10 minutes remaining in the first period to seal the win.
"A corner and a penalty kick undid us. I felt that we were playing pretty well and created opportunities," Coach Thomas Chestnutt said.
Middle Tennessee goalie Rebecca Kushing thwarted FIU's efforts by recording seven saves throughout the game.
The Golden Panthers continue conference action on Sunday at WKU at 2 p.m.
