Women's Soccer Blanked by UCF

TAMPA - The FIU women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to UCF on Sunday afternoon at the Dafeldecker Classic.

"We did not show up to compete today and that was unfortunate," Coach Thomas Chestnutt said. "UCF is a good, solid team. I give them full credit. They more than deserved the victory."

Kassandra Sorzano attempted FIU's only shot on goal less than two minutes into the game, but Lynzee Lee came up with the save. The Golden Panthers (1-1-2) took two more shots during the first period, but UCF (2-1-1) had better luck finding the back of the net. The Golden Knights took a 3-0 lead by halftime thanks to goals from Becca Thomas, Tiia Tikkanen and Amanda Martorana.

Despite the goals, sophomore Kaitlyn Savage still managed to come up with six saves in the first period.

Katie Jackson increased the lead to 4-0 with a shot from inside the box nearly four minutes into the second half. With 35 minutes remaining, the Golden Knights' Yvonne George added the final goal off an assist from Alex Brandt.

FIU got glimpses at the goal in the final 10 minutes but both Amy Jackson and Katrina Rose's shots sailed wide.

The Golden Panthers return to Miami for the first of a three-game homestand on Friday when it faces Cal Poly at 6:30 p.m.
