DENVER, Colo. -- The FIU women's soccer team took No. 25 Denver to its first overtime period of the season on Sunday afternoon, but the Pioneers (14-2, 8-0 SBC) managed to capitalize in the first minute of the extra period to steal a 1-0 victory.
The Panthers (8-7-1, 5-3-0 SBC) tied their season low five shots and were held to just one shot on goal, taken by freshman Chelsea Leiva in the first five minutes of the game. Goalkeeper Melanie Raimo came up with six saves, including one five seconds before the game-winner was scored.
At 1:03 into overtime, Cassidy Larson crossed the ball from the right corner into Nicholette DiGiacomo, whose shot was deflected by Raimo. Katy VanLieshout was there for the rebound and scored the game-winner for the Pioneers' eighth consecutive victory.
The Panthers return to Miami on Thursday to face ULM on Senior Night at 7 p.m.
