MIAMI - The FIU men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Tulsa on Saturday night. Freshman forward Nicolas Rodriguez-Fraile scored the Panthers' lone goal.
Junior forward Austin Neil put Tulsa (9-5-1, 3-3-1) on the board with a 1-0 advantage at 15:18 with a shot from inside the box. Senior forward Ashley McInnes attacked just over two minutes later from the left side, drawing out FIU goalkeeper Shane Lopez, and coolly passed the ball into the far post for the game-winner.
Nearly 12 minutes later, Lopez deflected a shot taken by Neil, but McInnes was there to rebound the deflection and scored to give Tulsa a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
FIU (7-9, 1-6) showed some life early after the break when Rodriguez-Fraile scored for his sixth goal of the year, which ties Michael Muehseler for the team lead. The Panthers shined on several occasions throughout the second half as Diego Tamburus and Carlo Schmid both forced Tulsa goalkeeper Ray Clark to make spectacular saves.
Tulsa struck again at 73:24 when Omar Mata scored from outside the box, and Matt Boullt capped the night with the final goal when he dribbled to just in front of the net and put the ball past Lopez with 42 seconds left on the clock.
Up next, FIU closes out the regular season on Nov. 5 against SMU on Senior Night.
