Orlando, Fla. - The FIU men's soccer team (4-5-0, 0-2-0 CUSA) dropped its second-straight conference match Tuesday night, falling, 2-0, to the UCF Knights (7-2-0, 3-0-0 CUSA) at the UCF Soccer Complex in Orlando, Fla.
The Panthers and the Knights were locked up in a defensive battle until the 44th minute when UCF's Eduardo Jimenez broke the scoreless tie, putting the ball into the back of the net for the first score of the match.
UCF's Luiz Yamashita would add an insurance goal in the 69th minute with a long ball from Kevan George that beat FIU goalie Shane Lopez near the far post.
Lopez finished the contest with four saves.
The Panthers would have some opportunities, but ultimately fell short, taking eight shots, three on goal. Florian Schwertl, Michael Muehseler and Sebastian Frings each led FIU with two shots apiece.
FIU will take a short break from conference action when they travel an hour north to face the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday, October 9, at 7 p.m. Following their match with the Owls, the Panthers head home for a season-long three-match homestand against Memphis, UAB and Hartwick College, beginning Oct. 12.
