Box Score DENTON, Texas (Oct. 7, 2012) – A pair of goals in the 63rd minute resulted in the only scores of the game as the FIU women's soccer team (6-5-2, 3-1-1 SBC) battled the North Texas Mean Green (10-3-2, 5-0-1 SBC) to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
Sophomore
Scarlett Montoya got the Panthers on the board with her fifth goal of the season in the 63rd minute. The native of Miami buried a shot into the back of the net off of a cross by junior forward
Chelsea Leiva. Leiva was credited with her fourth assist of the year on the goal. Three of the Royal Palm Beach, Fla., native's four total assists this season have been registered on goals scored by Montoya.
The Mean Green responded with a goal of their own in the 63rd minute. Karla Pineda notched her sixth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.
North Texas held a 31-7 advantage in total shots and a 17-5 edge in shots on goal.
Goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Savage was huge in net for the Panthers, making a career-high 16 saves versus the Mean Green. With the draw, the Fox Island, Wash., native moves her season record to 6-5-2 and her goals-against-average to 1.11.
The overtime game marked the second-straight for FIU and fourth of the season. The Panthers own a 2-0-2 mark in overtime games in 2012.
With the draw, FIU remains eight points back from first-place Middle Tennessee in the Sun Belt Conference Standings.
The Panthers will return home to host a pair of conference foes this weekend. FIU will welcome Louisiana to Miami on Friday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. ET, before hosting ULM on Sunday, Oct. 14, at noon.
