Panthers Fall to Knights in Season Finale

ORLANDO, Fla. (Nov. 24, 2012) – The FIU volleyball team fell to UCF by a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 26-24) score on Saturday night at The Venue at UCF in Orlando, Fla. With the loss, the Panthers end the 2012 season with an overall record of 10-20, while the Knights now own a record of 18-15.

UCF took the first set, 25-12, going ahead 1-0 for the match, and the Knights then went up 2-0 for the contest by way of a 25-15 set-two victory.

In the third stanza, FIU took a 10-4 lead on a kill by freshman Gloria Levorin before UCF battled back to knot the score at 13-13. The teams fought back and forth through seven more tie scores before the Knights scored two-straight points to take the set, 26-24, and come away with a 3-0 win.

Junior Brittany Spencer led the FIU offense with 10 kills, while Levorin chipped in with seven kills against two errors in 14 total attempts for a team-high attack prcentage of .357. Senior Ryanne Milligan registered a team-high 21 assists on the night, and sophomore Paola Ortiz posted a squad-best three service aces.

Defensively, the Panthers were led by sophomore Carolyn Fouts' 12 digs, while sophomore Silvia Carli and Levorin led the FIU blocking corps with three blocks apiece. As a team, UCF out-blocked FIU 9-4 for the contest.
