MIAMI (March 30, 2012) --- Freshman Sarah McLean picked up her second-straight singles victory in a 6-1 loss to the No. 49-ranked Brown Bears (14-4) on Friday, March 30, at the FIU Tennis Courts.
McLean earned the team's only point of the afternoon, defeating Brown's Cassandra Herzberg, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. The win marked the seventh of the season for the Miami, Fla., native.
The Panthers (5-13) fell behind, 1-0, after dropping three-straight doubles contests. Misia Krasowski and Ariel Caldwell defeated FIU's Nina Djordjevic and Giulietta Boha, 8-0, Herzberg and Jessica Harrow downed McLean and junior Rita Maisak, 8-5, while seniors Lisa Johnson and Christine Seredni fell to Carissa Aboubakare and Laura Wiley, 8-5.
The Bears won five-straight singles matches to clinch the match before McLean's victory. Junior Magali Holt fell to Nikita Uberoi, 6-2, 6-0, Johnson lost to Harrow, 6-3, 6-0, Maisak dropped a, 6-2, 6-3, match to Krasowski, Djordjevic lost to Julie Flanzer, 6-3, 6-1, and Seredni fell to Wiley, 6-2, 6-2.
The loss drops the Panthers to 2-4 at home and also marked the 11th time that FIU has faced a ranked opponent this season.
The Panthers will next host No. 57 Fresno State on Friday, April 6. The match is slated for 1:00 p.m. Prior to the match FIU seniors Christine Seredni and Lisa Johnson will be honored as they will be playing in the final home match of their Panther career.
