SECOND ROUND RESULTS
MIAMI, FLA. (FIUSports.com) – FIU freshman Coralia Arias (Quito, Ecuador) jumped into the top 10, while FIU moved into a tie for third place, after 36 holes of play at Mississippi State's Old Waverly Invitational in West Point, Miss.
Arias, playing in just her third collegiate tournament, sits in ninth overall after playing the second round at a career-best one-under-par. She enters Wednesday's final round at one-over (74-71-145).
In the team standings, FIU (294-297-591) is tied with Georgia State at 15-over-par. The host Bulldogs continue to lead the 11-team field for the second straight day, now at seven-under par (281-288-569). MSU is followed by East Carolina, which is at three-over (289-290-579).
MSU's Jessica Peng tops the individual leaderboard at five-under-par (69-70-139).
Right behind Arias in the individual standings is senior Shelby Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Florida), who is tied for 10th with a two-over (71-75-146). Sophomore Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, United Kingdom) falls just one stroke behind in a tie for 13th at three-over (74-73-147).
Sophomore Sophie Godley (Notinghamshire, United Kingdom) is tied for 32nd at nine-over (75-78-153). Sophomore Carla Jane (Santiago, Chile) rounds out the FIU starters, tied for 47th at 15-over (76-83-159).
Nestled in the heart of the Golden Triangle, Old Waverly is no stranger to premier golf events. The club has hosted numerous events on its championship course, most notably the 1999 U.S. Women's Open. Old Waverly has also hosted the men's and women's SEC Championship, Southern Golf Association Women's and Junior Championships, and the 2006 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
Designed by U.S. Open winner Jerry Pate and Bob Cupp, the course has been named to Golfweek's Top 100, Golf Digest's Top Course In Mississippi, and Golf Digest's Top 100 courses.
