@FIUWomensSoccer Drops Close Match To Middle Tennessee

Box Score

MURFEESBORO, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2013) – The FIU women's soccer team closed out its 2013 away slate Sunday afternoon, falling to Middle Tennessee, 1-0. With the loss, the Panthers finish the 2013 regular season with a 4-5-0 away record.

The Blue Raiders took a late, 1-0, lead in the first half, with Grace Summers scoring two minutes before time expired.  The Panthers were able to get off eight shots in the half, with freshman Alyssa Robinson and junior Marie Egan getting two looks apiece in the first. Seniors Nicole DiPerna, Kim Lopez and Crystal McNamara, along with freshman Talia McMurtire, all had opportunities in the first as well.

Freshman Vanessa Plasencia got her second-straight start in net for FIU, finishing the day with five saves.

FIU ended the day with 11 shots, with Egan finishing with a team-high three shots. Junior Johanna Volz recorded two shots, while junior Caroline Hernandez was able to put one on target as well.

Despite the loss, FIU is still one of the front-runners in the east, as Charlotte fell to Florida Atlantic on Sunday, 3-1.  Entering Sunday's games, East Carolina was three points behind FIU for the top spot. An FIU loss combined with an ECU 2OT draw leaves FIU one point ahead in the standings.

The Panthers enter their final regular season match on Thursday against Marshall. Thursday's 7 p.m. match from the FIU Soccer Stadium will serve as senior day for FIU's five graduating players: Paige Covington, Paula Zuluaga, Lopez, DiPerna and McNamara.
