FORT PIERCE, Fla. (Nov. 1, 2013) – The FIU women's swimming and diving team improved its dual meet record to a perfect 3-0 with a 140-101 victory over Indian River State College on Friday afternoon. The Panthers won seven of the 13 events that took place in Friday's meet.
"The team improved a lot today," said head coach
Randy Horner. "We posted a lot of season best time times and that's great when we are at peak training. Indian River swam really fast today. We had to swim well to win."
Senior Sonia Perez and junior
Johanna Gustafsdottir each won two individual events. Perez took home titles in both the 400 IM and 200 Backstroke. Perez's time of 2:01.98 was a top time for Conference USA this season. Meanwhile her time of 4:24.87 in the 400 IM was good enough for a first place finish. In the 200 freestyle event, Gustafsdottir earned a time of 1:53.12, besting her season-high time. The junior also earned a victory in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:20.22.
In diving, senior
Sabrina Beaupre won both the one meter and three meter diving events. Beaupre's score of 305.02 in the three meter dive tops her season-best score of 294.45 that she set against Florida Atlantic in the first meet of the season. Beaupre also posed a mark of 285.97 in the one meter dives to earn an additional nine points for FIU.
Junior
Nadia Farrugia topped her season-best time in the 1000 Freestyle, earning a mark of 10:25.24 to earn a first place finish.
The Panthers have 20 days off before heading to Missouri for the Mizzou Invite, beginning on Nov. 21.
