Like many other FIU game this season, Saturday's Conference USA match-up at Middle Tennessee features two programs that were participant to the latest round of conference realignment with the Blue Raiders also coming over from the Sun Belt to C-USA. In total, seven of FIU's 11 FBS opponents in 2013 were involved in expansion, whether for this season or next.
Middle Tennessee rallied for a 24-21 road victory at UAB last Saturday. The Blue Raiders remain third in the East Division with a 3-2 league mark. Middle Tennessee tied the score, 21-21, at 1:50 in the fourth, and then kicked an 18-yard field goal with three seconds left in the game.
It has been an all-time long 36 days between road games for FIU. The Panthers last defeated Southern Miss, 24-23, in Hattiesburg on Oct. 5. Since, FIU hosted three home games and had its second bye week. Three of the final four regular season games will come on the road.
