Miami, Fla. – (FIUSports.com) – After two rounds of action at the 2013 Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge, FIU trails No. 18 N.C. State narrowly by one stroke, 590-591. The Panthers, who have a team score of +15 over, led the field of 16 teams after the first 18 holes, but saw the Wolfpack surge ahead in second 18 to grab the one stroke lead.
Held at the beautiful Par-72, 6278-yard Senator Course at Don Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes, FIU finished the first round with a one-over 289 – three strokes ahead of then-second-place Kansas (293) . N.C. State was in a tie for third at the time with a five-over 293, along East Tennessee State. During the second 18 holes, N.C. State shot a 297 to FIU's 302 to create the tight placing heading into Tuesday morning's final round.
FIU presently sits six strokes ahead of third-place Kansas (597), nine over Miami (600) and ten strokes over host-school Maryland (602).
N.C. State holds the top two spots in the individual standings and has three in the top three. The Wolfpack's Brittany Marchand leads the field of 93 players at four-under (69-
71-140), while teammate Lindsay McGretrick (competing as an individual) is in second at three-under (70-71-141). FIU freshman
Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, United Kingdom) is tied for third with N.C. State's 54th-ranked Augusta James and Kansas' Yupaporn Kawinpakorn at even-par (70-70-144). FIU junior
Shelby Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Florida) is next, tied for sixth, with Maryland's nationally-ranked Christine Shimel at two-over (73-73-146).
The teams tee off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. FIU will start in the top pairing with N.C. State and Kansas.
