MIAMI, FLA. (FIUSports.com) – FIU concluded competition at the 2013 Notre Dame Clover Cup, held at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., with a 301 in Sunday's final round to finish seventh among the 16 schools competing in this year's event.
For the 54 holes, FIU scored an 896 (305-290-301), +32, to finish three strokes behind sixth-place at 27th-ranked Northwestern (893, +29).
No. 3 Oklahoma won the event at two-under (862), the lone school to finish under par for the tournament. The Sooners were followed by No. 34 SMU (880, +16), No. 11 Texas Tech (882, +18), No. 63 Tulsa (891, +27), No. 22 Notre Dame (892, +28) and Northwestern – just ahead of No. 48 FIU.
FIU's finish within the competitive field was ahead of five other schools in the nation's top 80, including No. 65 Minnesota (8th, 904, +40), No. 40 Mississippi (9th, 906, +42), No. 77 Colorado (10th, 913, +49), No. 68 Kansas (11th, 917, +53) and No. 80 Michigan (12th, 921, +57).
FIU freshman
Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, U.K.) led all Panthers in a tie for 17th at six-over (72-74-76-222). Tulsa's Kristin Merkle won the event at six-under-par (210).
Senior
Yolecci Jimenez (Caracas, Venezuela) was the next Panther in the standings, tied for 24th at nine-over (77-73-75-225). Freshman

Tania Tare (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior
Shelby Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) all finished in a tie for 38th at 13-over.

Next up for the Panthers is the 2013 SunTrust Gator Invitational, March 15-17, at the University of Florida's Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville.
