Panthers drop the Troy Trojans twice, 6-5, 3-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI (April 13, 2013) – The Panthers (26-20, 9-7) won twice on Saturday, 6-5, 3-0 against Troy (18-23, 6-7) at the FIU Softball Complex.

The Panthers' game one victory was culminated in a last-at-bat comeback performance.

Scoreless through the first two frames, senior Amber Curry hit a solo home run, her third of the season, to lead off the bottom of the third.

Hannah Renn slammed a three-run home run over the left field wall with one out in the top of the fifth inning, putting Troy ahead, 3-1.

The Panthers evened the score in the bottom of the fifth at 3-3, courtesy of an RBI groundout by Shelby Graves and an RBI single by Rachel Slowik later in the inning.

Troy's Kacie McAllister hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh, just out of the reach of Curry in left centerfield, to make the score, 5-3.

Leading off the bottom of the seventh, Brie Rojas brought the Panthers a run closer with a solo home run to left, putting the tally at 5-4.

Troy's starter Michaela Hamilton was pulled in favor of Rachel Rigney, who took the loss.

Graves reached on an error by the second baseman and advanced on a wild pitch. Slowik walked and both runners advanced on a groundout to short by Aleima Lopez. After
an intentional walk to Jessy Alfonso to load the bases, Krystal Garcia reached on a fielding error by the catcher, plating Graves to tie the score.

Kayla Burri flied out to left for the second out, but an error by the leftfielder on the cutoff throw allowed Slowik to score the game-winning run for FIU.

In game two, freshman Corinne Jenkins shut down the Trojans on two base hits.

The only runs of the game occurred in the bottom of the first inning.

After the first two batters reached base, Graves singled home Curry from second, but a throwing error by the centerfielder permitted Bre Kaye to score from first base, placing
Graves on third base to put FIU ahead, 2-0.

Two batters later, Graves scored on a sacrifice fly by Lopez to put the third run on the board for the Panthers.

The lone hits for Troy belonged to Kacie McAllister and Chandler Griffin.

Jenkins earned her team-leading 13th victory of the season, walking two and striking out four batters.

The Panthers and Trojans will conclude the series tomorrow at noon.
