Catherwood Earns Conference USA Spring Spirit of Service Award

The senior outfielder was recognized by CUSA for her excellence on and off the field along with her commitment to making a difference in the community

MIAMI — FIU softball's Kendall Catherwood was named the recipient of Conference USA's (CUSA) Spring Spirit of Service Award, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. 

Catherwood received deserved recognition for her excellence on and off the field in her senior season as a Panther. On the diamond, Catherwood started in 51 games and collected 35 hits with 19 RBI as an every-day player for FIU. In the classroom, the St. Johns, Fla.-native graduated with a 3.85 GPA as a marketing major, earning Dean's List recognition in every semester as a Panther. She also received honors as a recipient of the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal and additionally appeared on the CUSA Honor Roll.

In the community, Catherwood spent her time away from school and softball serving as Vice President of the Student-Athletic Leadership Council (SALC). With SALC, she led service initiatives including Operation Christmas Child and a campus food drive while volunteering with the Miracle League and local Little Leagues.

ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF SERVICE AWARD
The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport. The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with Tuesday's honorees representing beach volleyball, outdoor track and field, softball, women's golf and women's tennis.
