MIAMI (Sept. 14, 2013) – The FIU football team fell to Bethune-Cookman by a 34-13 score on Saturday night at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 0-3 while the Wildcats improve to 3-0.

B-CU opened the scoring early when Anthony Jordan ran 58 yards for a touchdown, giving the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 11:27 remaining in the first quarter.

The Panther special teams picked up a big play at the end of the first quarter, as Sam Miller returned a punt of 42 yards into Wildcat territory, but FIU could not convert. The return marked a career best for the senior.

In the second quarter, FIU quarterback Jake Medlock tossed to T.J. Lowder for 48 yards to the B-CU 13 yard line. Medlock then connected with Lowder on an eight-yard slant route for a TD, putting the Panthers on the board and knotting the score at 7-7 with 6:51 remaining in the first half. The touchdown marked the first of Lowder's career, and the previous 48-yard grab marked a career-best for the redshirt sophomore.

True freshman Austin Taylor made his first-career appearance as the Panthers' kicker with a successful PAT to cap off the scoring drive. Taylor is the first true freshman to kick for FIU since the inaugural 2002 season when Adam Moss was the field goal kicker.

B-CU struck again with 1:58 left to play in the opening half, as Cary White rushed five yards for a score, giving the Wildcats a 14-7 advantage at halftime. B-CU added to its lead in the third quarter with a pair of TD's, putting the score at 28-7 with 4:01 left to play in the period.

Miller picked up an interception for the Panthers with six seconds left in the third quarter, but B-CU's Tim Burke picked off Medlock to start the fourth quarter, returning the interception92 yards for a touchdown. The Wildcats' PAT was blocked by Isame Faciane, as B-CU went ahead 34-7 with 14:38 remaining in the contest.

FIU got on the board again in the final period, as E.J. Hilliard threw a one-yard pass to Jonnu Smith for a score. The Panthers' extra-point was no good, as the score stood at 34-13 with 7:45 left to play. The TD marked the first of Smith's career.

FIU returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 21, when the Panthers travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m. ET.
