LOUISVILLE (Sept. 21, 2013) – FIU fell to No. 6 Louisville on Saturday afternoon, 72-0, at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The Panthers (0-4, 0-0 Conference USA) were unable to take down the undefeated Cardinals (4-0, 0-0 American) who were led by an efficient Heisman Trophy contending quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater, a junior from Miami Northwestern, led Louisville with 212 yards passing and four touchdowns. Fellow Northwestern alum E.J. Hilliard got the start at quarterback for FIU, subbing for an injured Jake Medlock.
Defensively, Justin Halley led the way for the Panthers with six tackles and a career-high three pass break-ups. He now has 15 for his career, tying him for fifth all-time at FIU.
The Panthers are idle next week before heading to Southern Mississippi on Oct. 5 to open up Conference USA play. That contest is slated for a 4 p.m. kickoff and will be nationally televised on CSS.
