MIAMI, FLA. (FIUSports.com) – FIU sophomore
Meghan MacLaren (Cambridge, United Kingdom) continues to place in the field's top players with a five-over par as she enters Wednesday's final round at the GolfWeek Conference Challenge, played on the Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.
Overall, the Panthers sit in a tie for seventh among 18 teams competing.
MacLaren followed up an even-par first round with a 77 in the second to enter the final 18 holes with a two-day score of 149 (72-77). She is tied with Harvard's Anne Cheng and Pepperdine's Alina Ching. Pepperdine's Marissa Chow sits atop the leaderboard at three-under (71-70-141).
In team scoring, FIU scored a 315 on the second day to place in a tie for seventh with SMU at 47-over (308-315-623). The Mustangs scored a 313 in the first round, followed by a 310 in the second.
Making a surge in the second round was sophomore
Sophie Godley (Notinghamshire, United Kingdom), who sits in a tie at 14th at nine-over (78-75-153). She began the day in 30th after scoring a 78 in the first round, but went a team-best three-over par in the second round to move up in the standings.
Freshman
Coralia Arias (Quito, Ecuador) is tied for 24th at 11-over (77-78-155). Arias is playing in just her second collegiate tournament.
Senior
Shelby Coyle (Pembroke Pines, Florida) is tied for 62nd after shooting an 85 in the second round and freshman
Lesley Atkins (Harwick, Scotland) is tied for 73rd with an 87 in round two.
Of the 18 competing teams, 11 finished last year ranked among the top 100 in the country and six were ranked in the top 50. In addition FIU, the 18-team field at the GolfWeek Conference Challenge also features Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Boston College, Central Arkansas, Denver, East Tennessee State, Harvard, Illinois State, Indiana, James Madison, Morehead State, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine, San Jose State, SMU, TCU and UC Davis.
