@FIUSwimDive Travels to Indian River on Saturday

Panthers carry a 2-0 dual meet record into Saturday’s meet

MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2014) – The FIU swimming and diving team will look to improve to 3-0 when it travels to Indian River on Sunday afternoon. First event is slated to begin at 12 p.m.

Last Time Out
FIU picked up a 124-78 victory at Florida Southern last Saturday afternoon. Freshman Brittney Fant earned the first two victories of her career, while senior Johanna Gustafsdottir picked up two more wins to up her season total number of first place finishes to four. Freshman Silvia Scalia earned a victory and also led off the 400 medley relay with a 100 backstroke time that ranks second in school history.
 
Scalia Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week
Scalia was named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week last week. She becomes FIU's second freshman to win a league award this season, as freshman Rebecca Quesnel won the C-USA Diver of the Week Award on Oct. 14. Scalia produced two conference-best times in the 200 backstroke and as a part of FIU's 400 medley relay team to lead the Panthers to victory over local rivals Florida Southern last Saturday. The Italy native posted a time of 2:01.81 in the 200 backstroke to win the event. The two 200 backstroke times in her first two collegiate meets are better than any other swimmer in the league by more than a second. Scalia then swam the opening leg of the 400 medley relay, earning a credit for a 100 backstroke time of 55.76 seconds, also a C-USA-best. The Panther relay team won the event with a time of 3:50.61.
 
Last Year vs. Indian River
FIU earned a 124-78 victory over Indian River last November. The Panthers won seven of the 13 events that took place in the meet. Sonia Perez and Johanna Gustafsdottir each won two individual events.
