@FIUVolleyball Drops 3-1 Loss to Charlotte

Lucia Castro notches third straight double-digit kill match

MIAMI (Nov. 2, 2014) – The FIU Panther volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 22-25, 19-25) Conference USA loss to Charlotte on Sunday afternoon from FIU Arena. With the loss, FIU falls to 6-20 overall and 3-10 in C-USA action, while the 49ers improve to 14-16 overall and 3-10 in conference play.
 
Lucia Castro reached double-digits in kills for the third consecutive match this season when she led the Panthers with 17 kills on Sunday. Castro also took 33 attempts as she posted a team-best .364 (17K-5E/33TA) against the 49ers. She also posted her eighth double-double of the season, the 16th of her career, with a career-high 24 digs.
 
Gloria Levorin added 10 kills and four blocks, while Lea Montaon and Jennifer Ene chipped in with nine and eight kills respectively. Kiona McSwain notched her first double-double of her career with a match-high 42 assists and 10 digs. Adriana McLamb also had a great day on the back row with 19 digs.
 
As a team, FIU posted a .200 hitting percentage and had nine total blocks against the 49ers. Charlotte finished the afternoon with a .194 hitting percentage, but had seven service aces on the day compared to three from the Panthers. The 49ers got double-digit kill figures from four players led by Savannah Gaster. Claire Kreuz, Irem Asci and Abreia epps all had 10 kills each, and Kruez had a double-double with 20 digs to go along with her 10 kills.  
 
The Panthers hit the road this weekend for their final road trip of the season. FIU takes on the Miners of UTEP on Friday, Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. ET, before traveling to San Antonio to battle C-USA leader UTSA on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
