MIAMI (Dec. 6, 2014
) –Redshirt freshman Kiandre'a Pound picked up her fourth consecutive double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the FIU women's basketball team to a 66-57 victory over in-state rival UCF Saturday night from Lime Court at FIU Arena. With the win, the Panthers improve to 1-5 on the season, while the loss drops the Knights to 4-3.

Joining Pound in double-figures was junior Taylor Shade with a season-high tying 18 points and senior Marita Davydova with 13. Davydova was also one rebound shy of her first double-double on the season. Senior Zsofia Labady also had a great game with seven rebounds and six assists, which was one shy of tying her season-high.

UCF was led by Brittni Montgomery and Aliyah Gregory who had 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Knights did not have one player who registered double-digit rebounding figures.

For the game, FIU shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57), while UCF was only 31.9 percent (22-of-69) from the floor. The Panthers forced 13 Knight turnovers, which resulted in 21 points for FIU.

The Panthers began the game scoring the first seven points in less than 90 seconds forcing the Knights to call an early timeout. UCF quickly answered with a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the night. FIU was held without a field goal for over six minutes until a Tynia McKinzie layup broke the spell at the 11:45 mark. UCF led by as many as five before the Panthers tied it up, 18-18, at the 7:45 point. The final four minutes of the first half remained extremely close, as it contained two ties and three lead changes; however, FIU used a 6-2 run to head into the locker room with a 27-24 lead.

FIU came out of the break on an 8-2 run to take its then-largest lead of the night at 35-26, which forced UCF to burn a timeout. The Knights pulled back within single-digits after hitting two free-throws, but Shade hit a three-pointer with 11:04 left to go in the game. FIU kept a double-digit lead for the majority of the half, but UCF pulled back within nine with 8:59 to go. The Panthers took back their double-digit lead and held it for the remainder of the game, going ahead by as many as 14, before picking up the 66-57 victory.

FIU will now take eight days off before traveling to Jacksonville for its first of three consecutive road games. The Panthers and the Osprey are set to tip off at 2 p.m. ET from Veterans Arena.
