MIAMI (Feb. 22, 2014) –The FIU softball team (11-3) went a perfect 2-0 on Saturday, first defeating the Dartmouth Big Green (0-3), 6-2. Krystal Garcia had a 3-RBI game and a 2-for-2 performance from freshman Gabby Spallone in the team's first game of the day. In the night cap, FIU battled back from a 1-0 deficit to earn a 5-1 win over the North Florida Ospreys. FIU's 10 wins in 13 games is the second-fastest in program history that the team has hit the 10-win mark.

Sophomore Corinne Jenkins got the nod in the night cap against North Florida, going seven innings and striking out four, while allowing just one run on three hits. The Sarasota, Fla., native improves to a perfect 5-0 this season.

Freshman Gabby Spallone (2-for-2, 1 RBI) extended her hit streak to five games with a leadoff single to left center to open the bottom of the second. Senior Rachel Slowik singled down the left field line, which put two on with two outs for redshirt freshman Marisa McGregor. The Rose Hill, Kan., native got in a foot race to the bag at first, but was called out following a meeting by the umpires.

FIU escaped a bases loaded jam in the third, surrendering just one run on a passed ball. Senior Bre Kaye converted the final two outs of the inning, ending the Ospreys' threat. Jenkins recorded two strikeouts in the fourth inning, stranding one at first.

A double in the fifth from Garcia put two in scoring position for Lopez, who plated junior Rebekah Sanchez from third off an E6, tying the game, 1-1. FIU would open up a 5-1 lead in the inning, with two runs scoring off a ball hit to short that McGregor was able to beat out. FIU batted around in the inning, capitalizing off three North Florida errors in the frame.

The Ospreys sent up the minimum in the seventh inning, as FIU retired the side.

During the day, junior Shelby Graves went the distance, improving to 5-1 and is now tied with Jenkins for wins. She finished with six strikeouts, allowing just two runs on five hits, while surrendering no walks.

FIU worked some early two-out, bases loaded magic in the first inning when junior Krystal Garcia laced a bases clearing triple down the left field line, falling just fair, for a 3-0 Panthers' lead. The 3 RBI added to her team-leading total of 11 entering Saturday's first game.

After a quick 1-2-3 top of the second, Kaye led off the home half of the frame with a triple to left, which is the first of the Glendale, Ariz., native's career. She would score off a sacrifice fly to dead center Sanchez.

Spallone made the third out in the third inning off a fly ball hit that would carry the Miami, Fla., native into the wall in center, holding Dartmouth to just a single hit through three innings. FIU would make it three-straight innings in which the team scored in the third. Spallone laced her second double this season to left center field and eventually scored on an errant throw to second by the Big Green catcher, Kathy Dzeinkowski.

Dartmouth responded with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, before Graves made it 3-of-4 innings that she sealed with a punch out. In the bottom half, McGregor and Texeira hit back-to-back singles, putting two on for Lopez, whose standup double to left drove McGreogor in. FIU plated at least one run in each of the first four innings.

Graves retired the side in order in the seventh for her third 1-2-3 inning of the game.

FIU is back in action on Tuesday when the team hosts Eastern Michigan in a double header. The games will be at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. from the FIU Softball Stadium.
