JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 12, 2014) – In its first of two-straight days of doubleheaders, the FIU softball team (18-7, 2-1 C-USA) swept the Jacksonville Dolphins, 1-0 and 8-3. Freshman Stephanie Texeira had a career-hit 5 RBI and two home runs in the second game, while redshirt freshman Dani Mowry also had her first-career homerun in the nightcap. It's the second time this season FIU has put up three home runs in a game.

Game One: FIU 1, Jacksonville 0

Sophomore Corinne Jenkins picked up her ninth win of the season, moving into second place in the conference in wins. The Sarasota, Fla., native went five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits with two strikeouts. Junior Shelby Graves picked up her team-leading third save of the season, tossing two scoreless innings.

FIU used its defense to get out of a first and second inning Dolphins' threat, first with senior second baseman Bre Kaye turning the 4-3 double play to end the first. Jenkins got a timely first strikeout in the second inning to end the frame with a runner on second.

The Panthers had a good opportunity in the fourth inning when Texeira hit a dribbler that the Dolphins' second basemen couldn't handle. Junior Krystal Garcia singled to center, but FIU would leave two in scoring position in the frame. FIU would utilize the double play ball again in the fourth, this time turning a 3-6-4 ground out double play, stranding one Jacksonville base runner.

FIU went ahead in the fifth when Kaye worked a one-out walk and followed with her team-leading tenth stolen bag of the season, putting her in fifth place in Conference USA. Senior Nicole Rascon drove her in two batters later off a single to right.

The Dolphins best threat of the game came in the sixth inning after the first two batters reached on back-to-back singles. With no outs, Graves came in to close the game, picking up three consecutive outs. Junior Rebekah Sanchez flashed some leather in left field, picking up a big second out by reaching over the wall in foul territory, as the Dolphins went on the strand two in the inning.

Game Two: FIU 8, Jacksonville 3

Graves earned her eighth win of the season in the night cap, going five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and two strikeouts. Jenkins picked up her second save of the season, tossing two scoreless innings and giving up just one hit.

Texeira wasted no time and put the Panthers ahead, 2-0, in the first inning off a two-run shot to left field, tying her with Garcia for a team-leading four home runs this season. Mowry notched her first-career home run to lead off a second inning where the Panthers plated three runs. With two on, Sanchez hit an RBI groundout to second base, and Rascon followed with an RBI single to left field, which forced a Dolphins' pitching change.

The Dolphins were able to crawl back into the game in the second after picking up two runs, making it 5-2 and cut it to 5-3 in the home half of the fifth. Texeira gave the Panthers some insurance in the top of the seventh, as she blasted her second home run of the game to straight away center. It was a three-run shot for the freshman. With her five RBI game, Texeira is only the seventh player in C-USA to have a 5-plus RBI game, joining teammate Rascon on the list. FIU is the only team with multiple players on the list.

FIU is back in action tomorrow, taking on No. 22 Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m., which is followed by a 3:00 p.m. first pitch against UCF from Orlando.
