@FIUWSoccer Shuts Out LA Tech 2-0

Box Score MIAMI (Oct. 11, 2015) – The FIU Women's Soccer team (8-7, 4-2, C-USA) shut out the Louisiana Tech Lady Techster (9-7, 2-4 C-USA), 2-0,on Sunday afternoon from the FIU Soccer Stadium.

The first half saw much of the action in the Lady Techster's third of the field as FIU outshot the LA Tech 7-1. The Panthers totaled three shots on goal, keeping LA Tech goalkeeper Kylee Seto busy.

Despite pressuring LA Tech through the first 45 minutes, FIU heading into halftime knotted up at 0-0.

FIU came out of the break with the same intensity of the first half, peppering the team from Ruston as the Panthers outshot LA Tech, 10-2 in the final 45.

In the 50th minute, junior Talia McMurtrie placed a header to the bottom, left corner of the net off a cross from senior Madlen Weinhardt to put the Panthers on the scoreboard, 1-0. McMurtrie registered her second goal of the season and of the weekend.

FIU extended its lead when junior Ellen Crist registered her fourth goal of the year in the 83rd minute. Senior Scarlet Montoya crossed the ball to Crist who faked out the LA Tech goalkeeper for a wide open goal. The score game the Panthers a 2-0 advantage with less than 10 minutes to play.

FIU controlled the remainder of the game, blanking the Lady Techsters for the team's fifth clean sheet of the season.

"In the second half we were moving the ball better. That goal was long-time coming," said McMurtrie. "It was good momentum going into our next weekend. Basically, let's just focus on the next two games and that's all we're worried about"

The Panthers continue its Conference USA run next weekend, as they take on WKU and Marshall. WKU will host Friday's match in Bowling Green, Ky., at 7 p.m. FIU will then head to Huntingtin W.V. to take on Marshall, at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
