BOWLING GREEN (Oct 16, 2015) – The FIU Women's Soccer team (8-8, 4-3 in C-USA) fell to WKU at the WKU Soccer Complex, on Friday evening in double overtime, 1-0.
The Lady Toppers outshot the Panthers 16-8, but FIU held up a defensive battle only allowing six shots on goal. Offensively, the Panthers struggled to find the back of the net with only two shots on goal.
The first half of the match, the Panthers reached the WKU box only once, but failed to get on the scoreboard. The Lady Toppers responded with six total shots, two being on goal, and all failing to place WKU in the lead.
The action intensified in the second half with FIU matching WKU with six shots, but again neither team found the back of the net.
Overtime saw much silence with only one failed attempt by the Lady Toppers.
In double overtime, WKU found their footing with a flurry of shots until Caitlin Hesse finalized the game, 1-0, in the 109th minute.
The Panthers remain on the road this weekend as they head to Huntington, W.V. to take on the Thundering Herd Sunday afternoon, at 1 p.m.
