Box Score MIAMI (October 3, 2015) – The FIU Men's Soccer team (7-3-0, 2-1-0 in C-USA) were defeated by the Charlotte 49ers, 1-0, on Saturday night. Charlotte scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute.
Saturday's match had a quiet start until the 49ers broke the silence in the 26th minute to take the lead, 1-0. Kyle Parker of Charlotte rifled a shot which deflected off the crossbar and found the back of the net. It was Parker's third goal of the season. The assist was credited to Matej Dekovic, his first of the season.
In the second half, frustration plagued the Panthers. FIU out-shot Charlotte 13-5 in the second half, but to no avail. Four FIU players were given yellow cards, three of which came in the second half. In total, FIU led in shots 15-7.
"We fully knew what we were getting into. No surprise there," said Head Coach Scott Calabrese.
"We can't let those things affect us because we on the field make our own decisions," junior Marvin Hezel said.
The Panthers will look to bounce back next Saturday against UAB in Birmingham, Ala., at 8 p.m.
