MIAMI (October 9, 2015) – The FIU Volleyball team (11-7, 5-2 in C-USA) recorded another 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) and improved its home record against conference opponents to 4-0 with a win over Charlotte Friday night. The Panthers were led by senior
Lucia Castro with 14 kills, freshman
Katie Friesen with 23 assists and senior
Adriana McLamb with 14 digs.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-21 victory in the first set. Castro led FIU with five kills. The Panthers put up similar numbers to the 49ers across the board, but the kill-ratio was in FIU's favor 17-11, which ultimately decided the set.
In the second set, the Panthers continued a highly efficient offense and locked down on defense to get the 25-15 victory and take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers put up six blocks in the second set. They were led by junior
Katie Hogan with two solo blocks and two block assists.
The Panthers clinched the match in the third set taking the 3-0 sweep with a 25-20 victory. The Panthers had 20 team kills in the final set. Led by senior
Gloria Levorin, Castro, and Hogan, FIU's offense was performing at top notch.
On the night, the Panthers out-blocked the 49ers 10-6. They racked up 51 kills, compared to Charlotte's 34. FIU hit a .277 percentage.
The Panthers will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi next Friday night to take on Southern Miss at 7 p.m.
