MIAMI (November 1, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (13-10, 7-5 in C-USA) fell to the UTSA Roadrunners, 3-1 (17-25, 27-25, 9-25, 17-25) on Sunday afternoon from Lime Court at FIU Arena.
The Panthers began the match slowly, dropping the first set 1-0 (25-17) to the Roadrunners. The team was led by senior
Gloria Levorin with four kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
FIU fought back in the second set. After beginning with a 16-6 deficit, the Panthers clawed their way back to get the 27-25 victory and tie the match. The Panther offense was led by junior
Katie Hogan with four kills and a .364 hitting percentage. As a team, FIU notched five aces to clinch the comeback. Senior
Lucia Castro and freshman
Dominique Dodd each had two aces; Hogan had one.
UTSA came back with a fury in the third set to claim the 2-1 lead after a dominating 25-9 victory. FIU as a whole hit a -.291 on 10 errors. No Panther had more than one kill in the set.
In the fourth set, UTSA took the match after a 25-17 victory. Sophomore
Tia Clay led the effort with four kills and a block in the final set.
FIU struggled throughout the match offensively. The Panthers finished the afternoon with a .020 hitting percentage. FIU only posted 32 kills and 29 hitting errors. Castro accumulated 11 digs, moving her past '03-alumn Elizabeth Baldwin for fifth all-time in Panthers history with 984.
FIU will host (No.20) WKU this Friday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. The volleyball team will have its Senior Night this Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. versus North Texas
