MIAMI (Nov. 17, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (15-12, 9-7 in C-USA) has qualified for the 2015 Conference USA Championship Tournament in San Antonio, Texas. Entering as the No.7 seed, the Panthers will face the host school and No.2 seed UTSA Roadrunners. Quarterfinal matches begin on Friday, Nov. 20. First serve for the Panthers is set for
1 p.m. ET.
Last time out: The Panthers are coming off a successful road trip, having swept both LA Tech and Charlotte. Over the weekend, FIU clinched its first birth in the Conference Tournament since 2013. Versus Charlotte (25-20, 26-24, 25-18), the team was led by senior
Gloria Levorin and junior
Katie Hogan with 13 kills apiece. Sophomore
Jennifer Ene also added seven kills of her own and five blocks.
Scouting UTSA: The Roadrunners (22-8, 13-3 in C-USA) will be heading into the tournament after a very successful season. UTSA was the only team in Conference USA to have defeated (No.22) WKU this season. The Roadrunners, however, are coming off their worst conference loss of the year: a 3-0 sweep by the hands of North Texas.
Riding a two-game winning streak, the Panthers are ready to make a splash in this year's tournament. FIU is the best blocking team in the conference and will look to continue their success at the net
on Friday.
