@FIUWBB Falls to Marquette, 95-83, in Opening Round the 2015 FIU Turkey Slam

MIAMI (Nov. 27, 2015) – Despite career-highs in scoring by junior Tianah Alvarado (23) and senior Destin Feagin (18) to go along with a season-high 18 points by senior Taylor Shade, the FIU women's basketball team (1-3) dropped a 95-83 decision to the Marquette Golden Eagles (1-4) in the opening round of the 2015 FIU Turkey Slam on Friday afternoon from Lime Court at FIU Arena.
 
Alvarado converted 9-of-15 shooting from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. The native of St. Petersburg, Fla., also grabbed five rebounds and registered a team-high five steals. Shade shot 9-of-10 from the free-throw line, while hitting on 4-of-16 from the floor. The product of Boynton Beach notched six rebound, four assists and three steals in 32 minutes of action. Feagin was 70.0 percent from the field (7-of-10) and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds versus the Golden Eagles.
 
FIU shot 46.0 percent (29-of-63) for the game and was 10-of-26 from beyond the arc (38.5 percent). Marquette shot a solid 52.4 percent from the floor (33-of-63) and even better percentage from 3-point range (10-of-18 – 55.6 percent).
 
The Panthers forced 19 Marquette turnovers, resulting in 22 points for FIU. However, the Panthers committed 20 turnovers which led to 23 points for the Golden Eagles. FIU trailed in rebounding to Marquette, 37-31, and the Golden Eagles out-scored the Panthers in the paint, 38-24.
 
FIU will next take on Wichita State in the consolation game of this year's Turkey Slam on Sunday, Nov. 29. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
