SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 5, 2015)
– The women's basketball team dropped a 74-56 contest to the UTSA Roadrunners from the Convocation Center. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 3-17 on the season and 0-9 in Conference USA play. The Roadrunners are now 10-12 overall with a 5-5 mark against conference foes.

Leading the offensive attack for FIU was redshirt freshman Kiandre'a Pound who dropped a team-high 16 points. Senior Marita Davydova turned in 10 points and collected a game-best 11 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the year, while junior guards Taylor Shade and Destini Feagin each added nine points apiece.

After trailing 6-4 early, FIU hit 3-of-5 attempts from downtown to spark a 9-0 run in less than two minutes. UTSA pulled within one point multiple times through the first half, but eventually took a lead at the 3:11 mark. The Panthers quickly responded after Feagin hit a jumper and Davydova made a layup to take a three-point lead. The Roadrunners pulled back within one two more times before taking a 30-29 lead with 1:45 remaining the first. Shade ended a three minute and five second scoring drought hitting a free throw with 23.5 seconds left in the first as the teams went into the locker room tied 30-30.

The beginning of the second half featured four lead changes and two ties in the opening three minutes of action; however, UTSA went on a 10-0 run at the 16:49 point that lasted two minutes and 39 seconds. Pound stopped the bleeding with a layup under the basket with 13:51 left to play, but the Roadrunners continued to go on the offensive with another big run, this time a 21-6 attack over a nine minute span. FIU would pull back within 14 points with less than two minutes to play, but it was too little too late as the team fell, 74-56.

For the game, the Panthers were 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor, while the Roadrunners hit 48.4 percent (31-of-64) of their attempts. The biggest difference was turnovers as UTSA forced 20 FIU turnovers and turned them into 23 points. The majority of the 23 points off turnovers were also fast break points. The Roadrunners also almost doubled the Panthers' scoring in the paint as they had 50 points in the lane, while FIU only had 26.

FIU continues its road swing on Saturday when it heads to El Paso to face the UTEP Miners. The game will tip off from the Don Haskins Center at 5 p.m. ET.
