Panthers Dominate Lady Toppers; Win Fourth-Straight, 7-0

MIAMI (March 12, 2015) – The FIU women's tennis team improved to 6-5 on the year with a dominating 7-0 win over Conference USA foe WKU (5-6) on Thursday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
The win marked the fourth-straight for the Panthers as FIU improves to 6-0 at home. The win also marked the 10th-straight for the Panthers at home, dating back to last season.
 
FIU took the doubles point, following wins by the duo of juniors Carlotta Orlando and Kaitlin Brozovich (6-1 over Gabby Crofford and Madeline Phillips) and the tandem of senior Yana Koroleva and sophomore Nina Nagode (6-2 over Emilia Granstrom and Andrea Christopoulou).  
 
The Panthers proceeded to sweep the singles portion of the contest, taking all six matches. Freshman Nerma Caluk got things started with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elpida Malamou. Brozovich made the score 3-0, downing Emily Przystawski, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Valentina Briceno picked up her third-straight singles win, topping Crofford, 6-0, 6-3, clinching the match for the Panthers.
 
FIU added three more points as Koroleva defeated Granstrom, 6-3, 6-1, Orlando defeated Tereza Hejlova, 6-2, 7-6 (5), and Nagode defeated Christopoulou, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
 
With the win, FIU improves to 1-0 all-time versus the Lady Toppers.
 
The Panthers will host the Boston Terriers on Saturday, March 14. First serve is set for noon.
