Gustafsdottir and Scalia Set to Represent FIU at the NCAA Championships

Gustafsdottir will begin action in the 200 IM on Thursday

MIAMI (March 18, 2015) – Two members of the FIU swimming team are set to begin action at the NCAA Championships, which begin on Thursday. Senior Johanna Gustafsdottir will take part in the 200 and 400 IM event as well as the 200 breaststroke at this year's championships, while freshman Silvia Scalia will participate in the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the 200 IM.

Gustafsdottir and Scalia helped pave the way for the Panthers at the Conference USA Championships two weekends ago, as the squad earned FIU's first ever C-USA crown. For the week, FIU won eight titles, with seven of them coming in individual events. Gustafsdottir led the way with three titles, while Scalia had two. The duo also set school records in two individual events each.

This year's NCAA Championships will take place in Greensboro, N.C. Gustafsdottir and Scalia will begin action at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the 200 IM. If they were to advance, the 200 IM finals will take place at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday night. Backstroke action for Scalia will begin on Friday at 10 a.m.
