FIU Women’s Tennis Downs New Mexico State, 4-2

MIAMI (March 24, 2015) – The FIU women's tennis team improved to 7-6 on the year with a 4-2 win over the New Mexico State Aggies (10-6) on Tuesday afternoon from the FIU Tennis Courts.
 
The win marked the fifth in the last six games for the Panthers as FIU improves to 7-1 at home.
 
FIU took the doubles point, following wins by the duo of senior Yana Koroleva and sophomore Nina Nagode (6-1 over Ashvarya Shrivastava and Denise Van Der Ben) and the tandem of freshman Nerma Caluk and sophomore Valentina Briceno (7-5 over Erkia Castillo Lopez and Mia Brandt).  
 
The Aggies tied the game by winning the first point in singles play via a walkover victory as FIU played with only five. Koroleva gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Shrivastava. Nagode extended the Panthers lead to 3-2, downing Van Der Ben, 6-1, 6-3. Castillo Lopez cut the FIU lead to 3-2, defeating Brozovich, 6-1, 6-4. Caluk clinched the match for the Panthers, recording a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Rimpledeep Kaur.
 
The Panthers will host the Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday, March 25. First serve is set for noon.
