MIAMI (April 18, 2015) – The FIU baseball team (17-21, 8-9 C-USA) evened the weekend series with WKU (19-17, 8-9 C-USA) with a 6-4 win over the Hilltoppers on Saturday night from the FIU Baseball Stadium.
With the game tied, 4-4, heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers plated two runs en route to the conference victory.
Junior
Zack Soria went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored in the game. The Homer Glen, Ill., native hit this first run of his FIU career – a solo shot that tied the game in the bottom of the first. Senior
Julius Gaines had a 3-for-4 night, scoring two runs, while junior
Edwin Rios had two hits, including his sixth double of the season.
Reliever
Williams Durruthy (1-1) earned his first victory of the year, allowing no runs on one hit in one and two-thirds innings of action, while striking out one. Junior
Danny Dopico picked up his seventh save of the season, pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
FIU and WKU did a majority of the damage in the first four innings as eight of the 10 total runs in the contest were scored in the first four frames.
Both teams will take the field in the rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
