@FIUBaseball Falls to Old Dominion, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. (May 3, 2015) – Four Old Dominion pitchers combined to shut out FIU, 3-0, Sunday and take the three-game series from the Panthers at Bud Metheny Baseball Complex in Norfolk, Va. The Monarchs (23-24, 9-15 Conference USA) won two of three games from the Panthers (21-25, 11-13 C-USA).

FIU could only manage five hits off the combination of Adam Bainbridge, Jake Josephs, Thomas Busbice, and Nick Hartman. Josephs (2-1) got the win in the relief. Hartman recorded his third save. The Panthers had four singles and a double. Zack Soria delivered the lone extra base hit.

The Monarchs scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off FIU starter Chris Mourelle (5-6), who took the loss. Mourelle went 5 1/3 innings, allowed five hits and walked three.

FIU suffered its third shutout of the season -- all of them coming in starts by Mourelle. In the seven games FIU has lost with Mourelle starting, the Panthers have averaged 1.3 runs per game.

FIU returns home to open a five-game homestand Tuesday. The Panthers final five home games of the season begin with a two-game set against Jacksonville and continue with a three-game series against UAB Friday. First pitch for Tuesday's game against the Dolphins is 6:30 p.m. from the FIU ballpark.
