DELAND, FLA. (Aug. 23, 2015) – Despite a dominating 19-shot performance, the FIU women's soccer team (1-1) fell, 2-0, to the Stetson Hatters on Sunday afternoon.

Thirty-seven seconds into the match, Stetson's Adrianna Suarez was able to slip past the Panthers' defense and sneak the ball into the back of the net from 10 yards out. Junior Sophia Trujillo was tested three more times in the first 10 minutes, as the Panthers combatted a corner attempt in the effort. On the counter attack, junior Alyssa Robinson fired FIU's first chance of the day with 11 minutes passed. The Panthers' defense kept the pressure on Stetson for the final 35 minutes of the first half and didn't allow another shot, while FIU created its chances towards the end of the half. Freshman Jacqueline Manteas just missed the equalizing header in the 38th minute, while Robinson offered two additional shots on goal. With junior Ellen Crist's shot after an extended weather delay, the Panthers outshot Stetson, 7-4, in the frame.

Following the pause, Stetson's Sarah Collins buried an insurance goal with 53 minutes elapsed. On the cross from the left flank, Collins vollied the ball into the goal. FIU kept knocking on the door towards the 70-minute mark, with Crist and sophomore Courtney Phillips each having chances stopped. Junior Talia McMurtrie tried for a missed header in the later stages of the second, while freshman Lyrik Fryer and Crist each had their attempts slide just high in the closing minutes.

FIU gets back to the pitch this Friday, as the Panthers will host the preseason No. 17 UCF Knights. First touch from FIU Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
